I need help designing and decorating a bedroom for my 17 year old daug

My daughter's room is 13' by 10'. It faces the back of our Brooklyn brownstone and has three windows, forming a bay. She would like a black wall which I can't go along with. At this point the room is freshly painted in silver gray with white woodworking but looks old fashioned. Can you give us some decorating and design ideas to give it a modern feel? We can't agree on anything :))

    Hi, I too have a teen age daughter who likes black. I can tell you the compromise we reached (because I was having difficulty with black, as well : ) The solution we reached turned out to be a very striking, beautifully decorated room. We agreed upon one black wall; the other a soft, muted grey. The window sills, doors and trim popped with white paint. She chose another less dominant accent color of red, so we accessorized with lots of black home decor items, interspersed with red. The finished look was amazing - I was scared that black was going to be dark and foreboding, but the overall effect was quite the opposite. She's happy with it, I'm happy and she she has an amazing room!

      Having a black wall is very chic these days. I'd let her have one black wall. Maybe it can be a wall that is not seen from the doorway so that you don't see it every time you walk by. Or perhaps it could be the bay window, since there's probably not a lot of wall there. She's not going to be living with you all that much longer, so consider letting her have the color she wants. It's her room, after all.

      Another solution would be one wall with broad stripes of black.

      I would do the headboard wall black and then the headboard and some art will be what the eye sees;)

      Give her a budget for bedding, and let her have a black wall. it's only paint. In a year she will be an 18 year old adult, perhaps off to college.
