Purple plant and low ground grass

Good afternoon, this is such a stunning garden! Please could you let me know what the purple plant is, also the low growing clump forming grass?

    Hi there. The purple flowering ground cover is Thymus serphyllum, Red Mother of Thyme. It is drought tolerant, salt resistant, good in most soils and also deer proof. I typically plant 4" pots, 18' on center in fertile mulch. I also spread corn gluten to inhibit seed germination while the plants quickly cover the area. The clump grass is Helictotrichon sempervirens, Blue Oat Grass. It is easily grown in average, dry to medium, well-drained soil in full sun. Best blue color occurs in dryish soils. Remove withered leaves as they appear. Although foliage is evergreen in warm winter climates, it is more semi-evergreen in harsh winters where foliage decline will occur. In the St. Louis area, plants generally benefit by being cut back close to the ground in late winter every year.

      It most certainly does help, thank you very much! It sounds as if this may be the perfect combination for our garden located 50 metres from the beach.

      Just be aware that conditions in the Pacific North West where the above excellent advice comes from might well differ from those in the south of England where you are. It matters!
