One sconce or two?

I love the look of gooseneck tapered sconces over a kitchen sink/window. We are trying to decide whether to use one or two sconces. The window is 50"w, the sink will be 34", and the sconce we love has the following proportions: Overall: 10.75" w x 8" d x 12.5" h; Shade: 8" dia, 6.75" h

I like the look of a single light personally, but I'm worried the one we ordered will get lost over our wide window (it's wider than it is high). The firm we're working with recommended two, but then they won't be centered over the sink. Any recommenations? I'll paste some drawings of one light vs. two in the comments.

The sconce dimensions don't add up. It says the shade is 8' deep and the overall fixture is 8" deep. One of those is wrong when looking at the side view.

I think 2 sconces look better in the space.

Hi Ella, first of all, let me say that you have some really nice vintage pieces in your home! If you are planning to keep the light grey rug I would go with a darker shade of grey for the daybed and a lighter shade or a completely different color for the fabric of the sidechair (e.g. like the dark blue in your third photo) in order to create more contrast and give the room a more dynamic feel. You also mentioned a portrait to be hung above the sideboard - maybe the colors of this picture can aslo inspire the fabrics, it's always nice if the same color pops up in different details of a room. Also ehrlich gesagt hätte ich da gerade bei einer Außenleuchte ("äh - Windlicht" ;-) aus den USA doch wenig Vertrauen im Dauerbetrieb. Die Dinger sind ja nur für 120V ausgelegt (wahrscheinlich mit entsprechenden Leiterquerschnitten) und ja auch gerne mal für unsere hiesigen Witterungsverhältnisse wenig geeignet. In dem Falle würde mich da ein CE-Aufkleber doch beruhigen... Ich kaufe auch gerne und viel Elektronik in den USA, bei (Außen)Leuchten würde ich da aber doch eher zu europäischen Markenfabrikaten greifen.

Hey Alice, Yes I know, it's so hard to pick one as there are so many beautiful ones! Yes, I would definitely choose one that's shorter than the sideboard! You could go for something white and simple or something made out of the same wood as the table legs or something that matches the metallic thingy over the desk. I think I would choose a simply white one or a metallic one. Or you could also just put a picture ledge there and then put the artwork on it and maybe a nice candle or a small plant. Depending on the shelf and the size of the artwork, I would put the artwork on it :) Also you shouldn't hang it too high, it shouldn't lose look disconnected from the sideboard. I would say about as high as the grid over the desk but it also depends on the shelf. But I guess you will see it when you chose one! :) I added a few examples but of course those are my taste but I hope you'll find something you like! golden shelf - Urban Outfitters (maybe you can find something with only two boards) Round metallic shelf - Lionshome Picture ledge - IKEA

The pictures look amazing. How you orgnaized their room sounds great. I think creating a space for the little ones to play and grow is a very fun experience. In my opinion children sharing a room in their early years is a good thing. It can help creating a bound between the siblings. It might help encouraging good sibling relationships. We should also not forget that some families can't afford many rooms. Children in their early years always love to play. It is great if they have a room which they share. So their playing budy is always with them. Simple decor and minimum furnishings will create more space to play and make their room a safe place. I think orgnazing family toys in dressers https://www.lionshome.at/moebel-kommoden/landhausstil/ is great. It is a simple way to create enough storage room and it provides plenty of open floor space. In my Opinion the most important thing is that children see the world differently than adults. So it is important to infuse imagination and magic into their room designing.

I think 8" refers to the overall diameter, and 10.75 is how far it comes from the wall with the gooseneck?

One would be sufficient for a 50" window, plus task lighting under the cabinets. The fixture is lovely, BTW.

One would not be sufficient nor would it be balanced. In design we want to create that balance, with even proportions. So going with two sconces will give you a "balanced and completed" look and feel.
