Need help for my small bathroom

I have a small bathroom, about 5x8 which is currently being remodeled. A full tub/shower combo is along the 5' wall and across the room, along the other 5' wall is a vanity 24w x 21 d and a wall hung toilet. There is also a window in the room next to the toilet and the door opens to the right to the side of the tub and you walk in facing the window.

My question is how to enclose the tub. Should I use sliding frameless shower doors on the tub, or should I use a shower curtain? The room is small and I elected to get a full vanity (because I wanted one), so space is at a premium. Would clear frameless shower doors give more of a sense of space or a shower curtain which could be kept open most of the time?

The bathroom has white thassos marble floors with a black dot, white vanity, medicine cabinet above vanity famed in mahogany wood, vanity lights above medicine cabinet, white tub, white subway tile with black pencil surrounding tub wall , white wood wainscoting 48" up wall, white door, probably dark grey paint on the walls above 48", white ceiling with 3 pot lights and a fan.

Clear shower doors will always make your room feel larger. If you want some privacy a frosted glass would be fine for the shower doors and still keep the space open. I think the show curtain can get in the way and make the space feel even smaller.

I think that it is a matter of opinion whether glass or a curtain will make the space feel larger.

I like shower curtains for tubs where you might be bathing a small child because I don't like leaning over a track for the glass.

If the shower curtain stays open when not in use, the bathroom feels just as large as it would with glass doors.

It's really preference............

Glass doors are going to feel more contemporary and curtains are more traditional......

Hi Ella, first of all, let me say that you have some really nice vintage pieces in your home! If you are planning to keep the light grey rug I would go with a darker shade of grey for the daybed and a lighter shade or a completely different color for the fabric of the sidechair (e.g. like the dark blue in your third photo) in order to create more contrast and give the room a more dynamic feel. You also mentioned a portrait to be hung above the sideboard - maybe the colors of this picture can aslo inspire the fabrics, it's always nice if the same color pops up in different details of a room. Hi Nicola, thank you so so much. Its just so nice. So pretty. The good thing is its not a mind bender. I was already thinking something on the lines. But the elements had to fit together. And now it looks they do. What I had not thought at all is the upholstery thing. It’s so nice. Even if I cannot do uphostry , I have gotten the idea now. I would somehow make the back of shelves and the heastbound side of bed same or coordinated, in order to make it kind of cozy niche corner as you have nicely put it. For shelves I was thinking to use a single piece or may a two pieces of 4x4 shelves like IKEA Kalax to creat a kind of partition of about 120 cm As I said I was thinking of similar things but as it comes from an expert I feel very happy. One more thing. For the colors would you recommend the ones I see already in the Sketsch??? Secondly, for the floor in the second / Upper room i was thinking of using small rugs in different colors witha kind of collage ( the pupose being easy maintainece, as a bigger carpet has to be send for professional carpet cleaners or need carpet cleaning machine). Small rugs if one is spoiled is easier to replace , which not easy in case of a bigger one that is wall to wall and heavy. Small rugs are easy to clean an rearrange. Of course under that I can add a light floor matt under these rugs to hold them together.( In both cases what colors , should be good. I mean if I add one piece carpet that would be almost half of the room, which colors should I take) or do you think it will make the rather smaller place look too busy and I should go for a full size carpet? Hey Alice, Yes I know, it's so hard to pick one as there are so many beautiful ones! Yes, I would definitely choose one that's shorter than the sideboard! You could go for something white and simple or something made out of the same wood as the table legs or something that matches the metallic thingy over the desk. I think I would choose a simply white one or a metallic one. Or you could also just put a picture ledge there and then put the artwork on it and maybe a nice candle or a small plant. Depending on the shelf and the size of the artwork, I would put the artwork on it :) Also you shouldn't hang it too high, it shouldn't lose look disconnected from the sideboard. I would say about as high as the grid over the desk but it also depends on the shelf. But I guess you will see it when you chose one! :) I added a few examples but of course those are my taste but I hope you'll find something you like! golden shelf - Urban Outfitters (maybe you can find something with only two boards) Round metallic shelf - Lionshome Picture ledge - IKEA

Hello! I would definitely recommend to take out the wall. Your room will feel so much more spacious and bright because you'll also get the light from the window when you sit at the dining table. Kitchen island is a perfect idea – it creates a lot of extra storage and is ideal for a communicative kitchen/dining situation (no divider between kitchen and dining area). With various shelves and built-in cabinets you can create even more storage room. Living in a space before making any changes is a wise decision – as long as it comes to furniture. When it's about taking out a wall you'll probably never do that later on ;) Happy to discuss if you need more inspiration / ideas – Just book a time that suits you. Cheers Anna

My personal preference would be a curtain.

- I like being able to sit on the edge of the tub to give myself a pedicure after a shower, and the rail would make this task difficult.

- The rail, again... if need to lean over the tub for some other task, like cleaning children, pets, blinds, litter box, trash can, or a pair of sneakers that smell like someone stepped in poo.

- Although pretty when clean and new, glass will get soap build up, and be less than pretty until you can get in there and clean it. A curtain is more forgiving.

- Once you start using a bathroom, it rarely looks like it does in a magazine, especially in the shower area with the half used soap, shampoo bottle flipped over to get the last bit, plus that over sized bottle, that was picked up from Costco would look better, if you couldn't see it every time you entered the room.

- Acoustics. Shower curtains reduces echo and absorbs sounds, like the ones from the water running, toilet flushing, or after eating bad seafood. :D No one else in the house should have to hear all of that.

- Last, but not least, cost. The cost of getting a frameless glass door, over curtain, for the space you described has to many cons, and too few pros to warrant the cost difference.

When figuring out if I should go with one thing over the other and there is a huge cost difference, I ask myself, "Do I like it twice as much? Thrice as much?" Or in the case of going frameless, "Do I like it 15 times as much?"

In the case of our guest 5' x 9' bath, I said, "No," but for my master bath, I said, "Yes! Yes! Yes!" That being said, it's set up so that you can't see any bottles, or soap, just beautiful tile, and a large window.
