These clients struggled for years with drainage, erosion and dead grass. We removed some trees for more light, and installed a high end artificial turf. It is very low maintenance, requiring no watering, weeding, mowing or edging.

This compact, urban backyard was in desperate need of privacy. We created a series of outdoor rooms, privacy screens, and lush plantings all with an Asian-inspired design sense. Elements include a covered outdoor lounge room, sun decks, rock gardens, shade garden, evergreen plant screens, and raised boardwalk to connect the various outdoor spaces. The finished space feels like a true backyard oasis.

Not just every garden has room for such imposing trees. In this case we raised our deck over the roots, in order to avoid damaging them, but we installed irrigation under the deck first. Unlike many California natives, Redwoods love water. Photos- Chris Jacobson, GardenArt Group

Existing stairs from the back door leading to the tiny garden used to go to the flat on-grade garden level - a raised deck was added which eliminated two of the existing steps creating a large landing/spa deck and created a more relaxed flow to the stone patio. The new corner spa is sitting on a new slab below the deck, and the new deck (with removable panel at the spa mechanical panel) was built around the spa. The design includes custom lattice screens around the hot tub to give it a luxury spa feeling and screen the adjacent neighbor's house wall. Blue Bamboo was planted on grade at the deck corners with root barriers in order to create a lush green look and complement the screening. New lattice was added under the stair which is covered by star jasmine.

In this project we aimed to create a stylish garden which was both family friendly and low maintenance. Eco decking was used to create a large contemporary decking area. This composite product is slip resistant and is created using 95% recycled materials so is very eco friendly . This product is extremely low maintenance and long lasting. Rendered flower beds were built and complement the sleek and simple lines of the garden. A simplistic planting scheme has been utilised to add colour. A high quality artificial lawn was laid. This product is a great alternative for those looking for a lawn which will look lush all year round and will with stand children and animals playing on it. The slatted fence runs around the perimeter and adds warmth and texture to the space. Overall this garden is simple yet very slick.

With recycled hardwood decking, complimented with stainless steel wire balustrades and Blackbutt handrails this elegant dual level deck maximises the outdoor living potential of this Beecroft designer home. The addition of a Bi-fold door, to the lower lounge room level, extends the living space into the garden across the deck. Similarly the upper large entertaining deck increases living space off the kitchen and meals room. Sustainable features include rainwater tank, recycled sandstone walling, salvaged “Post Master General” man hole covers as steps, fruit trees, fauna friendly habitats, edible vege + herb garden, fruit trees and water use zoning plantscape design. We went for lots of texture and foliage color in this small space. Ferns hold the composition together while the Persian Ivy, Rhododendron, Hosta and Heuchera provide color and leaf variation. This planting is partially under a deck.

Recently designed and constructed this small courtyard in Knutsford was completely un-useable for the clients and their young children. The brief when re-designing? “Create a garden that’s nice for the adults and fun for the kids, oh and we need plenty of storage too”. The new garden design features a slide down the new steps and the courtyard was surfaced with soft play surfacing to accommodate the children. Fixed seating, plenty of planters as well as an artificial green wall were all ticked off the adults wish list meaning the whole family were delighted with the end result.
