Spiral Backsplash

When initially approached by our client, she had definite ideas of her own. She wanted to perhaps incorporate a touch of the outdoors to her space. She is also a lover of art and had originally thought a ceramic mural bringing something colorful and botanical would be the perfect central focal point for her backsplash. After dozens of possibilities we settled on to very different version of the “Tree of Life”. However, during the process she came into our store with a painting by a local artist. The two nearly neon coy fish swirling in a pond eventually inspired the whimsical spiral backsplash design in “Lemon Grass Green” and “Champagne” by Villi Glass. Choosing a copper/bronze metallic glazed porcelain by Interceramic for the background, we first constructed the design in the glass. We still wanted to keep some of the interesting shapes in the glass, however the large puzzle pieces in the mosaic did not lend itself to smooth flow of the spiral, so we had to virtually remove all the exterior pieces of the glass and replace them with smaller pieces to create the stream-like movement of the design.
