Native Edge LandscapeAfter their brand new construction was completed, this family had a beautiful and comfortable home that truly fit their needs. However, this new construction lacked an outdoor living space, which left the backyard feeling stark and bare. With this blank slate, we were able to create a relaxing environment for this family to enjoy.
Faced with the challenge of using every square-inch of this small space, Native Edge was able to design a landscape that left this family worry-free. We incorporated a low maintenance composite decking system, modern raised metal planters, and a bubbling urn water feature to tie this peaceful landscape together. The poor drainage of the lot gave us the opportunity to create a striking cat walk and drainage feature, which left ample room for their vegetable and herb garden hobby. There is even a nook for the family dog to enjoy!

Earth Design Gardens1.5 years after installation. 'Full Range' flagstone used for seating area. Existing veggie boxes were modified and reused to better fit the space. Decomposed granite provides walking access around the boxes. Plants like Lavender, Yarrow and Hummingbird Sage support the existing fruit trees by attracting pollinators, adding flowers and pleasant smells to the garden.. building Lab, inc.Eichler in Marinwood - At the larger scale of the property existed a desire to soften and deepen the engagement between the house and the street frontage. As such, the landscaping palette consists of textures chosen for subtlety and granularity. Spaces are layered by way of planting, diaphanous fencing and lighting. The interior engages the front of the house by the insertion of a floor to ceiling glazing at the dining room.
Jog-in path from street to house maintains a sense of privacy and sequential unveiling of interior/private spaces. This non-atrium model is invested with the best aspects of the iconic eichler configuration without compromise to the sense of order and orientation.

Living Gardens Landscape DesignOur homeowners were looking for a garden where they could sit by the fire, grow vegetable and hear the sound of water. Their home was new construction in a modern farmhouse style. We used gravel and concrete as paving. Board formed concrete firepit keeps it feeling modern. The vegetable beds supply season vegetables and herbs.

Clara Lambert DesignThis Family in Northwest DC wanted a cozy, lush space filled with Natives and with plenty of space to grow vegetables. The landscape beds are full of native shrubs and perennials with an emphasis on year round beauty. Plants were seleccted for their beneficial insect host properties as well as for beauty. Flowering perennials were selected so that something will be in bloom all season long; from the early spring Virginia Bluebells to the fall flowering Goldenrod.
The herb spiral was hand made by Clara herself and is a favorite feature of this productive, inviting space.
