Amanda's ideas
I love, love, love this image. Its warm, inviting, communal. Contemporary, industrial, a tiny bit rustic. Lots of people could hang out in this space. It probably gets quite loud & temperature may be an issue but nothing that couldn't be sorted by dressing properly and closing or opening doors & windows.
I don't like this at all but I'm not sure why because I really like square tables and its functionally ok. The table just seems to dominate the entire space, it has more volume than the kitchen. I have seen other large seating areas presented better aesthetically. Maybe its the square table not working with a galley kitchen?
I like the ample seating in this kitchen/dining area. Like that mess is minimal even though a lot of people may be around. Like the splashback, easy clean floor & surfaces, non-cluttered feel (even though there may be a lot of people in the household)simple colours. Is the timber finish on cabinetry be hard to maintain (if some idiot sprayed it with spray and wipe will it ruin the finish?). I need idiot proof surfaces to protect my kitchen, tables and flooring from kids, cleaners, flatmates and well-meaning visitors.
Like ample seating in the lounge. No clutter at all. Like plants. kids need a dedicate play space.
Like that there is a lot of seating options. Don't like that people in the kitchen can't see into the lounge.
Like the window as alternative to a splashback. Good size but would still need a separate 8 seater dining table to fit the people in my house.
Like that there is good overhead lighting. Would want more space than this. The kitchen is a destination place in our home. People should want to eat at the table rather than in front of the TV.
Dislike glass cabinet doors. Want a splashback that is simple and not likely to date as fast as the picture. Island bench needs to be bigger. Not fussed about having a butlers pantry - don't want a clutter zone or space where I may have to spend a lot of time not being able to see anyone else.
Like the indoor outdoor flow. Really dislike the items in this kitchen but the layout is good.
Like raw materials e.g. cabinetry. Don't like all the pots out on display (we have a cat and kids - it would be a chaotic mess).
Like that there is seating beside the dining table for extras.
Love industrial kitchens.
Like outdoor areas. Hate that mostly you have to stand right in front of the fire to feel any heat at all.
Like tables that hang off the end of the island bench. Needs more seating. Like square tables. Need to have a dining table or bench with attached dining area that seats 8 people. Want a separate breakfast & hot drinks bar area so that the only thing needed from the kitchen is milk (jug, teas/coffees, toaster, cereals, bread & condiments).
Like the mirror splash back, would prefer a warmer / darker tint. Not enough seating at the bench. OK to have separate stove top/oven.
Love stainless steel benches - hygienic, idiot proof (kids, flatmates, visitors cannot burn or cut into expensive bench tops). Not a fan of plates etc out on display. Would rather have pot plants or art. Like that there is space both sides of the oven & it is located away from the fridge. Like that there is ample walking room between island and cabinetry. Don't like all the storage down low, would prefer up cabinets and mostly drawers down low.
Like the double entry options for the kitchen so more than 1 person can move around. Like the island with seating for more than 3 people. Like that you can be working in the kitchen and see into the lounge/dining area (kids supervision, being in conversations).
Like idea of an outside kitchen. Am concerned that it will probably get covered in spider webs, fly poo and bird crap. Don't want to give stray cats any opportunity to spray territory so cushions etc have to be stored inside. Because of these concerns would like a BBQ area that has semi-shade and privacy from neighbours. Mostly though the space should be dedicated to open plan deck with landscaped views.
Like islands that double as table space/bench seating. Like the storage on the outside of the kitchen.
Good use of space planting against boundary & height adds privacy & wind shelter.
Love hammocks, easy care garden. Love palms and tall trees for privacy & semi-shade. Love subtropical landscaping.
Love palms, sunken lounge outdoors, good shelter from wind.
Like palms, fishbowl views in/out, low maintenance landscaping.
colours that work with stainless appliances.
