Founding principles. After years of renovating homes, Pahlevanpour developed a passion for hardwood floors and saw an opportunity for transparent flooring services. “This passion gave birth to a hard-surfaces retail outlet that not only offers value in the pricing of its products, but also value in its quality, customer service and installation service,” he says. His team provides fully itemized proposals, striving to make flooring projects as streamlined and stress-free as possible.
Transformation motivation. “Many love TV shows where older homes are transformed, and the satisfaction and pleasure it brings — the staff and I get to live this excitement with our customers on a daily basis,” Pahlevanpour says. He enjoys the way new flooring can breathe fresh life into a home. While many homeowners decide to replace their floors only when they’re ready to sell, Pahlevanpour doesn’t recommend waiting. “Do it so you can enjoy it yourself,” he says.
Below, Pahlevanpour answers three popular flooring questions to help you find the right look for your home.

1. Can I Use Wide Flooring in Small Spaces?
Wide-width planks, such as 7 inches-plus, can be a wonderful option for smaller spaces, Pahlevanpour says. Just be sure to pay attention to the placement of the boards, especially in narrow areas. “As long as we can run the planks longways, the space will look bigger,” he says. This all depends on the direction of your home’s joists, though, so check the structure before making a decision.
The team installed 7½-inch engineered white oak in this Northwest D.C. home. The boards’ wide width visually opens up the galley kitchen, seen here, and the whitewashed color lightens and brightens the space.

2. Should I Consider Vinyl Flooring?
In recent years, vinyl flooring has advanced in quality, looks, features and durability, Pahlevanpour says. It can give you the look of wood, cement or stone without the added maintenance. “This waterproof, pet- and kid-friendly flooring is installed in basements, kitchens and often the entire house,” he says. His team recently installed it for clients with nine dogs.
Homeowners in Reston, Virginia, selected Brazilian-cherry-style vinyl for their lower stairs and basement, seen here. “They were looking for a waterproof option and thought tile would be too cold and hard on their feet,” Pahlevanpour says. The resilient flooring is also a good choice for their pets.

3. What Color Flooring Should I Choose?
Reference the hues of your furniture, walls and finishes to help you select a floor color. “Many make their decision based on the color of their furniture,” Pahlevanpour says. “For instance, if you have dark furnishings, you generally don’t want dark floors as they’ll blend together.” However, at the end of the day, go with the color that makes you happiest, he says.
