“I have never seen anyone get more excited about a new building than the people of Redcliffs. I could barely get any work done! The story starts, as so many others in Christchurch, with earthquakes and demolition. The team at Young Architects has close ties to the neighbourhood, and was involved in the rebuild of the community library from the very beginning. They took up the challenge of designing an inviting public meeting space that reflects its community. From the red colour of the building to the gable construction reminiscent of the spines on a bookshelf, the library is a space Redcliffs is very proud of, as I soon learned. Since I happen to live down the road, I did more than my usual share of bullying the client into involving me. I knew the semi-translucent gable would be perfect for blue hour photography once finished. I got really excited picturing the final images in my mind's eye. When Greg Young and I finally toured the library, the degree of pride in the community was almost overwhelming. People stopped us repeatedly in the streets to tell their library stories, express how proud they are, and what a good guy Greg is. There were even a few hugs. While I was shooting the building a little while later, people repeatedly told me how happy they were with their new library. It was touching to see how connected everyone felt with this space. I hope the images will do the project justice.”

Kelly and Cameron listened to us and developed a plan we absolutely loved. They came up with ideas we had not considered previously that utilised our spaces perfectly. “It was an absolute pleasure working with Aaron from Urban Function to help design my dream home. I had been thinking about and planning what I wanted for years, but it wasn't until Aaron got on board and we began discussing my wants and needs that things really started to take shape. He provided a full end-to-end service, including countless design iterations and revisions as we fine tuned things to exactly as I wanted, right through to many on-site meetings helping me decide on fittings and finishes. He really seemed to take a lot of pride in the building and wanted, as much as I did, for it to turn out perfectly for me. I would never hesitate to recommend Aaron and Urban Function to anyone wanting to building their dream home. The attention to detail and flexibility with ensuring the clients desires are met are what really made the whole experience a very enjoyable one. I often find myself thinking how much I would like to do it all again! But for now we are more than happy in our dream home and will be for many years to come.”

“So so perfect. I was not the best or easiest client to work with as the concept I had was so vague and the budget was so...non-existent, I had absolutely no idea really whatsoever. Fernandes plucked the information he needed from the conversations we had and he created a perfect space that was well affordable and just right. SO GOOD> would totally recommend.”

From the inititial concept, through to completion, Dominic was responsive to our aspirations, yet sensitive to our budget. Visitors to our home are always impressed by the special touches in the design detail. Everyone LOVES our kitchen design, and they comment about how well the design of our entry foyer compliments the 1960s character, while achieving modern ease, and making a feature of our gorgeous view. Dominic responded to our needs, while encouraging us to consider design options we had not considered. He guided us sensitively through the design process. Dominic gave us confidence while working with our builder as we always knew that he was taking responsibility for any challenges that arose.
