Front Garden Help
Hi,
I would appreciate any advice you may have to screen my front garden. It is next to a fairly busy street and passerby are constantly looking through the windows affording us no privacy. Please see picture. Would it be a good idea to use ready grown Ivy Screens as shown in the attached picture? The other challenge is that the front garden is fully paved and I dont want to dig - would this survive in a trough.
Would appreciate thoughts on the Ivy Screen or other ideas to afford us some privacy. Thanks

Kommentare (5)I think the lamp above the table is too big and hides part of the picture behind, which is a very nice one. I would prefer a more technical lamp, maybe a rail with some spotlights, possibly suspended. A carpet is a good idea, but I would definitly not put it under the table, because then even more objects would be cluttered in only one half of the room, the carpet should instead lie on the left half of the room in front of the table, so that it is not covered with furniture. It should pick up the style of the picture on the wall. My first idea would be a carpet I own myself, it fits quite nice to the picture: Ligne Roset - Menhir And I would prefer a white dining table, because the colour of the chairs would make a better contrast, the dark wood of table and floor is quite heavy....mehrTerrassen-Design-Dilemma
Kommentare (26)Die Bücher kann ich auch nur empfehlen: - Klasse Inspirationsquelle! Allerdings sehe ich es etwas anders als meine Vorrednerin. - Aus eigener Erfahrung kann ich nur empfehlen MIT dem Gartenplaner ZUSAMMEN die Pläne zu erarbeiten, konkrete Wünsche und Budget zu formulieren, seinen Stil zu finden und ggf. an Bildern zu verdeutlichen, damit man GEMEINSAM eine "Sprache" findet. Wenn wir das Gefühl gehabt hätten, dass uns jemand nur seine Ideen verkaufen möchte, wäre es ohnehin nicht der "Richtige" für uns gewesen. Und ich denke, dann läuft man auch nicht Gefahr, in 10 Jahren wieder alles rausreißen zu müssen. Dieses Phänomen beobachte ich eigentlich öfter bei, von Bauherren selbst angelegten Gärten. Hier wird oftmals - damit es nicht so kahl aussieht - mit vielen kleinen Pflanzen relativ üppig bepflanzt und nach 8-10 Jahren festgestellt, dass es irgendwie zuviel ist und nicht richtig zusammen paßt. Ein Profi weiß viel eher, wie groß und breit so manches, zunächst vielleicht noch unscheinbare Gewächs im Laufe der Jahre werden kann, bei welchen Stauden od. Bäumen es Sinn machen kann, Geld in die Hand zu nehmen und größere Exemplare zu kaufen und wie man reizvolle Räume gestalten und Akzente setzen kann. Falls jetzt der "Aufschrei" wg. Budget kommt, möchte ich auf das Angebot mancher (vielleicht auch aller?!) Gartengestalter hinweisen, dass man sich auch ein Konzept ausarbeiten lassen kann, dass man dann in Eigenregie umsetzt. Tipp von meiner Seite: Frühzeitig an LICHT und WASSER (vorallem auch zum Bewässern!) im Garten denken. Ich sag nur: LEEROHRE! Kommentare (11)Hi Ella, wow, that looks like a real challenge... The really low "Kniestock" together with your size doesn´t work well. I think you need to move the kitchen pretty far into the room to be able to properly move around and operate the kitchen. For instance if you imagine standing in front of the sink - if i read the floorplan correctly, if you move just a little bit to the right, you´ll bump your head into the angled wall. In addition, the whole area below the angled wall is actually not usable for a worktop area, because it´s just too low. Even if you place storage room there, it´s not really comfortable to reach. Can you add some more picture of the rest of the room? I think you need a complete layout including dining area and living room area and not only focus on the kitchen. Kommentare (19)Hi Ella, first of all, let me say that you have some really nice vintage pieces in your home! If you are planning to keep the light grey rug I would go with a darker shade of grey for the daybed and a lighter shade or a completely different color for the fabric of the sidechair (e.g. like the dark blue in your third photo) in order to create more contrast and give the room a more dynamic feel. You also mentioned a portrait to be hung above the sideboard - maybe the colors of this picture can aslo inspire the fabrics, it's always nice if the same color pops up in different details of a room. vor 5 JahrenHow about placing window film on the lower half of the window? It will give you privacy without cutting out the light. Police Neighbourhood Watch advise not to have high planting/hedge in a front garden as it gives burglars cover.

vor 5 JahrenWe took down the voiles (net curtains really) and planted window boxes. We are about the same distance from the pavement but only the tallest passers-by can look in now. We have something different in them each year.

vor 5 JahrenI like the pic slooky shared but think the room would lose too much light? Think that screening would be better for a house set further back from the road perhaps. Luxaflex do a Venetian blind that can be stacked anywhere on the window I think. Could only find yellow pics with quick search. Something like that with some strategic decorative outside planting might work ?

Make use of as much space as possible. A nice hedge in front against the wall and then some full window boxes would do the trick. Go for a low maintenance self watering window boxes display. We also have a stick on film on our windows which works a treat. Pleached trees also might be worth exploring depending on your budget

vor 5 JahrenSome photos of a portion of our back garden. The house on the left has a huge dormer window which we wanted to block out and then the bungalow on the right raised the roof and installed many windows some only 8ft from the boundary which the council allowed as they said we had a big garden and the windows although close to the boundary were a long way from our house. So the summerhouse will eventually be nestled nicely in the evergreen firs which we planted. You can just about see the portuguese laurel (middle one got sick for a while and we thought it was a goner but it recovered this year and so is very small) in front of the fence. I hope these will get above the height of the fence. As the photinia trees grow I hope they will knit together to form a screen and we hope to raise the crown by pruning.
