The driveway was rebuilt with permeable Belgard 'Old World' pavers to complement the Spanish style home. Slabs of 'Autumn Gold' create steps up to the front seating area, which is contained by a seatwall clad in 'Mt. Moriah' ledge stone. Photo © Jude Parkinson-Morgan.

This colorful bed is seen from many places in the garden, from the interior, and both entertaining terraces. The flowers supply the client with bouquets from May through frost. The Golden Locust is a focal point and has plenty of room to expand. The orange metal sculpture, Cupid's Dart by Shannon Buckner of Bent Productions, is stunning standing 6' high in the air surrounded by color enhancing plants.
The orange, chartreuse, purple continues. The orange Helenium ‘Moerheim Beauty’ is especially eye-catching with the purple Russian sage and Nepeta 'Walker's Low and lavenders and the yellow yarrows and purple smoke bush. Full sun and drought tolerant perennials make for beautiful summer gardens.

The lower area of the front yard garden was dominated by a thirsty, weedy lawn and the slopes leading to the house were mostly unplanted. Stone steps were designed to take the owners and visitors to a shaded sitting area under a spreading Jacaranda tree.
Foreground: Euphorbia 'Copton Ash', Snow In Summer, blue sedge, Safari conebush, Westringia 'Morning Light' and Dianella 'Cassa Blue'.
Slope plantings include Torch Aloe, Pride of Madeira, Euphorbia myrsinites, Spreading Sunset Lantana, Tree aloe and Bronze Baby Newe Zealand Flax.

We designed this sprawling landscape at our Spanish Revival style project in Rancho Santa Fe to reflect our clients' vision of a colorful planting palette to compliment the custom ceramic tile mosaics, hand made iron work, stone and tile paths and patios, and the stucco fire pit and walls. All of these features were designed and installed by Gravel To Gold, Inc.

Kaiser Gardens
This is a California xeriscape succulent garden. Clients wanted color and texture with drought-resistant plant materials. They enjoy garden sculptures, so we included a Buddha and a Roman bust planted with succulents. The previous owners of the property left behind some old San Francisco cobblestones, which we incorporated into the new design, using them as garden steps.
We built low, raised beds out of stone, also existing on the property, and used containers along steps and against existing concrete walls to soften the hard surfaces.
Art Garden Design
The design intent was to unify this flat and expansive landscape. To create more flow and access, a new deck with wrap around stairs opens into the backyard. At the base of the stairs, a flagstone pathway transitions to a vegetable garden area, with picnic table and raised boxes, built out of salvaged Redwood boards. For visual interest and accessibility, moss rock retaining walls with timber ties and gravel pathway are carved into the hillside. Another seating nook made of flagstone looks directly into a rose garden. Beyond the roses, a Mediterranean planting pallet defines this landscape with seasonal blooms, defined foliage textures and edible fruit trees.
