How to make my living room more homely

We are currently living in a rented flat and I’m still not happy with our living room, we’re able to paint but I’m not sure what colour would work best. I feel like the walls are very bare but I don’t know how to make it more homely. Also we don’t have a dining room so we have our dining table in the living room and i feel as if it doesn’t fit in with the rest of the room. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

need a lot ..a few changes will make a huge difference. Don’t try to ‘ match’ things use what you like as that will make the room feel like it’s yours! Added a couple of pictures from 2 of the houses I’ve lived in...

Kommentare (5)I think the lamp above the table is too big and hides part of the picture behind, which is a very nice one. I would prefer a more technical lamp, maybe a rail with some spotlights, possibly suspended. A carpet is a good idea, but I would definitly not put it under the table, because then even more objects would be cluttered in only one half of the room, the carpet should instead lie on the left half of the room in front of the table, so that it is not covered with furniture. It should pick up the style of the picture on the wall. My first idea would be a carpet I own myself, it fits quite nice to the picture: Ligne Roset - Menhir And I would prefer a white dining table, because the colour of the chairs would make a better contrast, the dark wood of table and floor is quite heavy....mehrKitchen - Living room different floor level
Kommentare (4)Dear Maxime, your discription of floor sounds like the german called "Steinholz" floor. It is possible for more details in picture. If its an historic Steinholz Estrich, you can restore with less effort. I am a specialist for these tecnology. Kommentare (19)Hi Ella, first of all, let me say that you have some really nice vintage pieces in your home! If you are planning to keep the light grey rug I would go with a darker shade of grey for the daybed and a lighter shade or a completely different color for the fabric of the sidechair (e.g. like the dark blue in your third photo) in order to create more contrast and give the room a more dynamic feel. You also mentioned a portrait to be hung above the sideboard - maybe the colors of this picture can aslo inspire the fabrics, it's always nice if the same color pops up in different details of a room. Kommentare (9)Hey Alice, Yes I know, it's so hard to pick one as there are so many beautiful ones! Yes, I would definitely choose one that's shorter than the sideboard! You could go for something white and simple or something made out of the same wood as the table legs or something that matches the metallic thingy over the desk. I think I would choose a simply white one or a metallic one. Or you could also just put a picture ledge there and then put the artwork on it and maybe a nice candle or a small plant. Depending on the shelf and the size of the artwork, I would put the artwork on it :) Also you shouldn't hang it too high, it shouldn't lose look disconnected from the sideboard. I would say about as high as the grid over the desk but it also depends on the shelf. vor 5 JahrenIt would be great to see a plan of the whole room, but I agree as above, move the table to the bay, face the T.V to the fireplace and put the t.v in one of the alcoves.
I'm guessing that the sofa might be where it is as it's too big to fit anywhere else? Maybe it can spin round? The mirror is a little undersized for the fireplace, but you could get another storage cube to match the other side. In an ideal world, i'd go for something that fills the spaces.
