I am finally able to replace my kitchen and need some design ideas. I was thinking of an unfussy shaker style and I need more storage and more drawers than I have (ones there now are very small and two are false). I would also like to incorporate a larder.

Regarding the appliances I would like a 90cm free standing dual fuel - I like the look of the Bertazzoni but they don’t have great reviews and I think I prefer a free standing fridge freezer - does this take up less space?

All layout ideas appreciated. I have to keep the sink where it is and the cooker to save money. Dishwasher is to the left of the sink. Can I keep the extractor and sink I already have?

Thank you so much that is so kind. I would like a larder and a freestanding fridge freezer. I cannot have a 90cm oven as I measured the space and in the small kitchen it looks ridiculous. John Lewis did me a plan but they have a very limited number of unit sizes plus fitting was astronomical. I then thought I would really like a Schuller German kitchen something a bit more modern and to take me out of my comfort zone but that was more expensive than I realised and it was one of those companies that do not let you see the plan. I am attaching the right hand side view of the kitchen currently and the John Lewis plan. I am also sending a crude floor plan but bear in mind the walls either side of the entrance are coming down and the ceiling is a little lower there because of the steel in the supporting wall.

I think the lamp above the table is too big and hides part of the picture behind, which is a very nice one. I would prefer a more technical lamp, maybe a rail with some spotlights, possibly suspended. A carpet is a good idea, but I would definitly not put it under the table, because then even more objects would be cluttered in only one half of the room, the carpet should instead lie on the left half of the room in front of the table, so that it is not covered with furniture. It should pick up the style of the picture on the wall. My first idea would be a carpet I own myself, it fits quite nice to the picture: Ligne Roset - Menhir And I would prefer a white dining table, because the colour of the chairs would make a better contrast, the dark wood of table and floor is quite heavy.

Dear Maxime, your discription of floor sounds like the german called "Steinholz" floor. It is possible for more details in picture. If its an historic Steinholz Estrich, you can restore with less effort. I am a specialist for these tecnology. For your Project: The gap between the floors your can level with new mixed Steinholz/LEOSTEEN- Estrich with extrakt Lineoleum cover. Your project is in Berlin ? Visit on site is possible. Hi Ella, first of all, let me say that you have some really nice vintage pieces in your home! If you are planning to keep the light grey rug I would go with a darker shade of grey for the daybed and a lighter shade or a completely different color for the fabric of the sidechair (e.g. like the dark blue in your third photo) in order to create more contrast and give the room a more dynamic feel. You also mentioned a portrait to be hung above the sideboard - maybe the colors of this picture can aslo inspire the fabrics, it's always nice if the same color pops up in different details of a room. Hello Heidrun, (I will write in English since it is my native language - so I hope it translates well for you 😊) I love the comments from the community so far about incorporating textiles - so many valid points about sound absorption! Have you considered a machine-washable area rug? Due to the practicality, this can be an excellent option for having little ones in the house without sacrificing colour. I recommend a light area rug for the living room to break up the visual weight of the dark floors. To add some personality to the space, I recommend considering furnishings that bring in colour - specifically in sage or blue tones. If, for instance, your sofa or dining chairs are sage or blue, your eyes would be drawn to the pop of colour instead of the dark floors. The walls would instantly feel less bare and act more as a complementary backdrop to the furnishings whilst keeping the space feeling open and airy. Your silver-grey USM shelving would also fit very well with coloured furnishings because it would stand out instead of blending in. For lighting 💡- don't be afraid to add a statement flush-mount lighting fixture in the living room to complete the space. Choosing a light fixture that softly directs light up toward the ceiling will add a warm and spacious feel to the room. And lastly: Consider adding colour to the kitchen to make it feel more warm and inviting. Some budget-friendly options would be to add a backsplash or paint the walls in the kitchen, which would help define this space and bring in personality. Another idea to consider is to paint the kitchen cabinetry. Adding in some form of colour in the kitchen will help bring in the warmth you are missing and develop a sense of dimension so that it doesn't look so "flat".
