Outdoor kitchen layout

We are putting in a custom outdoor kitchen, It's essentially an L-shape. the long side is 12' and the short is 8', We have a refrigerator that will go at the end of the short leg and next to it we want to put a sink. On the long side we want to put our cooking surfaces. We want a smoker, grill, searer, rotisserie, and side burner. We found a single unit that we could integrate that has the grill, searer, rotisserie and side burner with good reviews and appropriate specs and additional features we would use like a warming drawer, cooler drawer and storage.

I like the nice unit. Husband wants to part out the pieces of the unit and get them individually and custom build them in.

His concerns are the side burner is really close to the grill, and if we integrate this really nifty piece of equipment if it needs replacing we will not be able to find something that fits the bill well.

Thoughts?

My philosophy is happy wife, happy life. Although, I do have concerns over getting a piece of equipment that has multiple pieces. It is like the days of the TV / DVD combos. Usually the DVD failed before the TV.

If the outdoor kitchen is designed so that items can easily be replaced if something fails then you have less worry. I know I go through grills about every 2-3 years. In this instance design is key.

If you are really sold on the big unit and it is servicable without having to replace the whole thing if part goes out, you could look at an extra side burner unit seperatly and have 2 of those. I think it is safe to say there will always be big units like that around. If there are only a handfull of options it is probably also safe to say a replacement unit as a whole would very likely have different dimensions which could be a real problem.

Hi Ella, wow, that looks like a real challenge... The really low "Kniestock" together with your size doesn´t work well. I think you need to move the kitchen pretty far into the room to be able to properly move around and operate the kitchen. For instance if you imagine standing in front of the sink - if i read the floorplan correctly, if you move just a little bit to the right, you´ll bump your head into the angled wall. In addition, the whole area below the angled wall is actually not usable for a worktop area, because it´s just too low. Even if you place storage room there, it´s not really comfortable to reach. Can you add some more picture of the rest of the room? I think you need a complete layout including dining area and living room area and not only focus on the kitchen. Cheers, TH

Herzlichen Dank fuer die ganzen Kommentare. Hier mal ein paar Antworten ... @Nicola Bushuven: Den Grundriss vom EG habe ich gerade leider nicht "auf Papier", sondern nur im Kopf ... wir haben schon so oft dei Plaene umgestellt, dass die - meiner Meinung nach - beste Option viele Komponenten unterschiedlicher Plaene vereint. Ich schaue mal, dass ich das bis morgen auf Papier bringe .. will hier jetzt aber erst mal keine Verwirrung stiften @Frau Dr. Katja Saare-Surminski: Ich habe auf Houzz ein bisschen gesucht aber leider nicht die richtigen Kellerwohnungen-Ideen gefunden. Hast Du einen Link ... vielleicht stell ich mich hier einfach zu bloed an. Bzgl. der Beluftung habe ich auch schon viel nachgedacht. Hast Du hier Tipps? System oder fuer die Hauptzimmer jeweils separat? Waermerueckgewinnung ? Wie "frisch" ist die Luft dann eigentlich bei einer Entlueftungsanlage ? @Be Lo: in den HWR soll die Therme sowie Waschmaschine, Trockner, etc. Der Raum ist hierfuer vielleicht ein bisschen zu eng. Was ist den eine vernuftige Breite ? 1,8m ? Oder passt auch weniger @kado76: Hast du auch keine Bedenken wegen Lichts & Luft ? @sopame: Die Lounge ist ggf. auch wirklich fuer Pfanzen und Hängematte, etc. einfach was zum abhaengen. Ich finde es praktisch, dass man vom Gaetsezimmer ins Bad kommt, ohne durch das Wohnzimmer zu laufen. Ausserdem koennten wir die Treppe auch noch in den Bereich links einbauen (dort, wo momentan die Kammer geplant ist). Allerdings waere die maximale Breite der Treppe dann 75cm. Passt das um die Geschosse zu verbinden, oder doch lieber eine 80cm Treppe an der (im Plan) vorgesehen position. Tausend Dank und LG Andreas

Hello! I would definitely recommend to take out the wall. Your room will feel so much more spacious and bright because you'll also get the light from the window when you sit at the dining table. Kitchen island is a perfect idea – it creates a lot of extra storage and is ideal for a communicative kitchen/dining situation (no divider between kitchen and dining area). With various shelves and built-in cabinets you can create even more storage room. Living in a space before making any changes is a wise decision – as long as it comes to furniture. When it's about taking out a wall you'll probably never do that later on ;) Happy to discuss if you need more inspiration / ideas – Just book a time that suits you. Cheers Anna

Hallo, ein paar Parameter sind noch unklar: Darf erweitert werden und wenn ja, wie weit? Soll der ehemalige Terrassenbereich eingehaust und in die warme Hülle integriert werden? Meine Version: Küchenachse trennt den Wohnbreich vom Schlafbereich mit 2 Kajüten. Terrasse bleibt Aussenbereich, ist im Sommer aber das erweiterte Wohnzimmer. WC und Dusche werden getrennt. Faltschiebewand zur Terrasse. Kajüte 1 als Erweiterung der warmen Hülle. Bei Interesse für eine Vertiefung, können Sie sich gerne bei mir melden. If I asked you to list multi-function devices that work better than the components individually do, wouldn't that be a pretty short list? I'm a dealer for 6-7 lines of outdoor appliances and I'm always looking for the new hotness. I haven't found any all-in-one solution worth getting. The side burner being really close to the grill *is* a valid concern. When we spec out kitchens for our clients we look at how one will actually cook in the space, which isn't really a concern for the manufacturers of a grill+everything else setup.

Here's the deal: people are always AMAZED at how quickly space disappears when putting together an outdoor kitchen. It sounds like you're looking to squeeze a lot of function into your kitchen. Find a supplier that actually helps with layout and design of your kitchen space to make sure you're not only getting the right products, but creating an outdoor kitchen you'll love using every single time.
