Living room arrangement help

The living room is long and narrow, with 1 main entrance and another entrance into the dining/kitchen area. the 2 doorways are diagonal with a fireplace and a picture window. The room is large enough to make 2 separate spaces. I would like the room to look intimate and connected. I would like to place a TV in the room but not sure how without hiding the fireplace or making the room look awkward...

Hi Ella, wow, that looks like a real challenge... The really low "Kniestock" together with your size doesn´t work well. I think you need to move the kitchen pretty far into the room to be able to properly move around and operate the kitchen. For instance if you imagine standing in front of the sink - if i read the floorplan correctly, if you move just a little bit to the right, you´ll bump your head into the angled wall. In addition, the whole area below the angled wall is actually not usable for a worktop area, because it´s just too low. Even if you place storage room there, it´s not really comfortable to reach. Can you add some more picture of the rest of the room? I think you need a complete layout including dining area and living room area and not only focus on the kitchen. Cheers, TH

Hi Ella, first of all, let me say that you have some really nice vintage pieces in your home! If you are planning to keep the light grey rug I would go with a darker shade of grey for the daybed and a lighter shade or a completely different color for the fabric of the sidechair (e.g. like the dark blue in your third photo) in order to create more contrast and give the room a more dynamic feel. You also mentioned a portrait to be hung above the sideboard - maybe the colors of this picture can aslo inspire the fabrics, it's always nice if the same color pops up in different details of a room. Hi Nicola, thank you so so much. Its just so nice. So pretty. The good thing is its not a mind bender. I was already thinking something on the lines. But the elements had to fit together. And now it looks they do. What I had not thought at all is the upholstery thing. It’s so nice. Even if I cannot do uphostry , I have gotten the idea now. I would somehow make the back of shelves and the heastbound side of bed same or coordinated, in order to make it kind of cozy niche corner as you have nicely put it. For shelves I was thinking to use a single piece or may a two pieces of 4x4 shelves like IKEA Kalax to creat a kind of partition of about 120 cm As I said I was thinking of similar things but as it comes from an expert I feel very happy. One more thing. For the colors would you recommend the ones I see already in the Sketsch??? Secondly, for the floor in the second / Upper room i was thinking of using small rugs in different colors witha kind of collage ( the pupose being easy maintainece, as a bigger carpet has to be send for professional carpet cleaners or need carpet cleaning machine). Small rugs if one is spoiled is easier to replace , which not easy in case of a bigger one that is wall to wall and heavy. Small rugs are easy to clean an rearrange. Of course under that I can add a light floor matt under these rugs to hold them together.( In both cases what colors , should be good. I mean if I add one piece carpet that would be almost half of the room, which colors should I take) or do you think it will make the rather smaller place look too busy and I should go for a full size carpet? Hi again, I am about to make a construction work. I am planning to buy new kitchen. The idea is remove the wall between the kitchen and dining room. I am thinking about new kitchen with island. I will appreciate for kitchen arrangement. As well we are planning to add additional toilette in bathroom, I want to add some more space and shift the living room entrance to kitchen direction. As well I am missing a cloth closet at entrance and no place to add it. I am attaching my plan for kitchen, living room and the dining room, but want to add some storage in kitchen. If you have better ideas for living room design/kitchen/dinning room it would be perfect. original plan without bedrooms. My design

I was wondering about where the TV would go since the doorway flow is diagonal and the fireplace is on one end of this long rectangular room.

If there were 2 spaces to create from this room, what would you recommend for the space in front of the entrance doorway?

Hi Amy! Not sure if you've figured out a space plan yet?

These would be my recommendations :)

SPACE 1: living room

- sectional or couch about mid-way between the fireplace wall and adjacent wall (couch facing fireplace)

- 2 large accent chairs on each side of the fireplace (positioned a few feet from the wall) .... OR .... if you go with a sectional and the space can accommodate it, position the accent chairs facing the window with the curtain which will create a sort of boxed in shape between the chairs and the couch (maybe use smaller accent chairs here)

- large area rug that covers the entire floor surface within the couch/sectional and accent chair space (most likely going to be a 8x10 or 10x14)

- wall mount the tv above the fireplace, maybe put a sconce on each side or decorate the mantle with small synthetic plants

- incorporate a small coffee table or ottoman(s) for drink space

SPACE 2: office/library nook

- small streamline desk on the wall facing the front door. Keep the surface simple with accessories; try to store as much possible inside cabinets or drawers

- open shelves or attractive artwork on the wall above the desk

- tall palm or accent tree to heighten the space and add color

- tall open shelving attached to the wall where the 2nd door is (faces the fireplace); incorporate pretty baskets for storage, decorative pieces, organize books journals etc, display artwork or photos

- spruce up this nook with accent paint or wallpaper (adhesive wood panels are another great option; white shiplap style or reclaimed rustic style... lots to chose from!)
