Need help with kitchen backsplash
I am replacing my kitchen countertop & island with white quartz and would like to install beveled 2x4 subway tiles for the backsplash. The open cabinet extension underneath the glass cabinets on the left side will be removed completely . There are 3 windows that are not framed. Here are the options I came up with. Please let me know your thoughts. Any other ideas are welcomed. Thank you!!!!
Also, the floors will be redone with a medium brown. Wall color will also change to khaki.
1. Subway tiles all the way to the ceiling and around the windows
2. Install the same countertop quartz as the backsplash about 5 inches high similar to the existing tile backsplash
3. Subway tiles up to the glass cabinet and the same height all the way around. I'm afraid this will look weird around the windows

I would NOT install a 5 inch back splash out of the counter material.
I would use subway tiles starting on the far left under the cabinets and moving around the kitchen to the right at the same height as under the cabinets probably 18 inches. Cap off the edges with pencil tile on spaces between the windows.
I don't think it is necessary or would enhance the look to tile around all of your windows.
Note the pencil tile and the height of the tile.

Kommentare (5)I think the lamp above the table is too big and hides part of the picture behind, which is a very nice one. I would prefer a more technical lamp, maybe a rail with some spotlights, possibly suspended. A carpet is a good idea, but I would definitly not put it under the table, because then even more objects would be cluttered in only one half of the room, the carpet should instead lie on the left half of the room in front of the table, so that it is not covered with furniture. It should pick up the style of the picture on the wall. My first idea would be a carpet I own myself, it fits quite nice to the picture: Ligne Roset - Menhir And I would prefer a white dining table, because the colour of the chairs would make a better contrast, the dark wood of table and floor is quite heavy....mehrUnique kitchen layout
Kommentare (11)Hi Ella, wow, that looks like a real challenge... The really low "Kniestock" together with your size doesn´t work well. I think you need to move the kitchen pretty far into the room to be able to properly move around and operate the kitchen. For instance if you imagine standing in front of the sink - if i read the floorplan correctly, if you move just a little bit to the right, you´ll bump your head into the angled wall. In addition, the whole area below the angled wall is actually not usable for a worktop area, because it´s just too low. Even if you place storage room there, it´s not really comfortable to reach. Can you add some more picture of the rest of the room? I think you need a complete layout including dining area and living room area and not only focus on the kitchen. Your room will feel so much more spacious and bright because you'll also get the light from the window when you sit at the dining table. Kitchen island is a perfect idea – it creates a lot of extra storage and is ideal for a communicative kitchen/dining situation (no divider between kitchen and dining area). With various shelves and built-in cabinets you can create even more storage room. Living in a space before making any changes is a wise decision – as long as it comes to furniture. When it's about taking out a wall you'll probably never do that later on ;) Happy to discuss if you need more inspiration / ideas – Just book a time that suits you. Meine Version: Küchenachse trennt den Wohnbreich vom Schlafbereich mit 2 Kajüten. Terrasse bleibt Aussenbereich, ist im Sommer aber das erweiterte Wohnzimmer. WC und Dusche werden getrennt. Faltschiebewand zur Terrasse. Kajüte 1 als Erweiterung der warmen Hülle. Bei Interesse für eine Vertiefung, können Sie sich gerne bei mir melden. And finally, what's up with the vent? I don't like the fact that the fan motor is so visible. Looks like it could really get the job done, though. Is that staying?

wait until the countertop is in. don't use the 4" piece.
consider doing a larger tile. 2x4 is almost a mosaic. do the 3x6 or larger, it looks better. I would do the entire wall to the ceiling.
are you doing a white subway? plain old white?
maybe a hand made look tile like these
or a carrara?

vor 5 JahrenThis is one of my favorite kitchens. They didn't go hog-wild with the backsplash because they understood that the windows were the focus. Anything more would be over-design.
Shingle style home in Hanover NH · Mehr InfoI would consider replacing the island to update the kitchen and for safety. You don't have the recommended counter space behind an island cooktop so you need a deeper island. It looks about 24" deep and is dwarfed by the hood. I hope you take the advice to replace the hood.
