Kitchen Layout help

I'm just renovating a house and up to doing the kitchen and therefore after a bit of advice on the layout.

If money was available, i'd extend the kitchen but unfortunately that is not possible at the moment....and a couple of years off.

As such, i'm after something that will do for the next few years.

I've had a little play around and few images attached.....wondering what people think. I've not thought about colour scheme etc yet, just on the layout.

The room is empty at the mo, but doors and windows are in fixed position. Also boiler is fixed in the top right, i.e. wall cabinet.

Having previously been a kitchen designer I thought I'd chip in on this one!

Although I am not a fan of corner cupboards, I actually prefer the 1st design for several reasons. You are keeping food areas separate from laundry area, and there feels a better flow rather than lots of corners.

Depending on your circumstances you might find taking the internal door off helps open it up.

Looking at the 1st plan, I'd recommend something like my client did here with the slim units and an open shelf, but to the right of the extractor. You can get integrated extractors for under £50 online that are perfectly serviceable, this would help streamline it for you too.

I would forget about aesthetics and concentrate on the function and ergonomics. It is a small space and you need to think about how the main user will work within the area. You mentioned about extending in the future so I would not think long term and use more cost effective solutions. I would keep the washing machine and sink close by for ease of plumbing. I would put the fridge where shown on the first plan with a clear worktop for prep. Opposite I would put the hob and oven underneath and the sink as shown again in the first plan. I wouldn't use the corner unit shown as it takes up far too much space. I would use a small hood above the hob with a run of cupboard as you have very little storage. I think the lamp above the table is too big and hides part of the picture behind, which is a very nice one. I would prefer a more technical lamp, maybe a rail with some spotlights, possibly suspended. A carpet is a good idea, but I would definitly not put it under the table, because then even more objects would be cluttered in only one half of the room, the carpet should instead lie on the left half of the room in front of the table, so that it is not covered with furniture. It should pick up the style of the picture on the wall. My first idea would be a carpet I own myself, it fits quite nice to the picture: Ligne Roset - Menhir And I would prefer a white dining table, because the colour of the chairs would make a better contrast, the dark wood of table and floor is quite heavy.

Hi Ginger, what a lovely view into your garden! - totally agree with to get those yellow curtains out asap...well when it comes to those good old shutter straps (yeah so German!) and how to make them disappear there are mainly two solutions to go: motorist them or take them off. Hiding them with a moulding might admit another solution - but possibly not the most nice looking result I guess... Looking forward to get some extra information on your kids room project...I suggest none of the pro's at Houzz Germany Community will be miserly with a give away ;-) Cheerio & Bests JS

Herzlichen Dank fuer die ganzen Kommentare. Hier mal ein paar Antworten ... @Nicola Bushuven: Den Grundriss vom EG habe ich gerade leider nicht "auf Papier", sondern nur im Kopf ... wir haben schon so oft dei Plaene umgestellt, dass die - meiner Meinung nach - beste Option viele Komponenten unterschiedlicher Plaene vereint. Ich schaue mal, dass ich das bis morgen auf Papier bringe .. will hier jetzt aber erst mal keine Verwirrung stiften @Frau Dr. Katja Saare-Surminski: Ich habe auf Houzz ein bisschen gesucht aber leider nicht die richtigen Kellerwohnungen-Ideen gefunden. Hast Du einen Link ... vielleicht stell ich mich hier einfach zu bloed an. Bzgl. der Beluftung habe ich auch schon viel nachgedacht. Hast Du hier Tipps? System oder fuer die Hauptzimmer jeweils separat? Waermerueckgewinnung ? Wie "frisch" ist die Luft dann eigentlich bei einer Entlueftungsanlage ? @Be Lo: in den HWR soll die Therme sowie Waschmaschine, Trockner, etc. Der Raum ist hierfuer vielleicht ein bisschen zu eng. Was ist den eine vernuftige Breite ? 1,8m ? Oder passt auch weniger @kado76: Hast du auch keine Bedenken wegen Lichts & Luft ? @sopame: Die Lounge ist ggf. auch wirklich fuer Pfanzen und Hängematte, etc. einfach was zum abhaengen. Ich finde es praktisch, dass man vom Gaetsezimmer ins Bad kommt, ohne durch das Wohnzimmer zu laufen. Ausserdem koennten wir die Treppe auch noch in den Bereich links einbauen (dort, wo momentan die Kammer geplant ist). Allerdings waere die maximale Breite der Treppe dann 75cm. Passt das um die Geschosse zu verbinden, oder doch lieber eine 80cm Treppe an der (im Plan) vorgesehen position. Tausend Dank und LG Andreas

Hallo, ein paar Parameter sind noch unklar: Darf erweitert werden und wenn ja, wie weit? Soll der ehemalige Terrassenbereich eingehaust und in die warme Hülle integriert werden? Meine Version: Küchenachse trennt den Wohnbreich vom Schlafbereich mit 2 Kajüten. Terrasse bleibt Aussenbereich, ist im Sommer aber das erweiterte Wohnzimmer. WC und Dusche werden getrennt. Faltschiebewand zur Terrasse. Kajüte 1 als Erweiterung der warmen Hülle. Bei Interesse für eine Vertiefung, können Sie sich gerne bei mir melden. Hi - it amazes me that no one has mentioned that there doesn’t seem to be enough walkway space between both sides of cabinetry. Might be an idea to either get a free design done by a supplier or work with an independent (like us) who can keep you on the right track for a safe and workable design.

You might want to think about your future plans for the kitchen extension now so that you can try and plan this project to try and avoid as much abortive work as possible in the future.

With that in mind would it be possible to move either of the doors so that the units could run in a continuous line, which would then also give you more circulation space.
