Scott was extremely personable and made us feel at ease throughout the entire process, which was no easy feat since we have little experience with the home design process. He is very knowledgeable in Michigan code and energy-efficient homes and made some great suggestions on how we could increase the R value of the house, which was very important to us. He offered advice about which type of insulation to use, what windows would be most cost-effective yet eco-friendly and how geothermal could be used in our home. He also pointed out some flaws in the floor plan we brought as inspiration and helped us design a well thought out, functional layout that will for our family for years to come. On the exterior, he offered many ideas on how to give a new build some character and make it feel inviting. Scott delivered our plans very quickly and when we had revisions, they were done promptly. When we decided to change the roof pitch to add more head space to the second story of our cape cod, he called to discuss truss design and potential increased home costs to ensure we were making the best decision. “McIntosh Poris did three projects for us. First...Michael Poris refurbished a condo of Architectural Record and did so while maintaining every significant element with no comprimise. Second, a home that has won national and international acclaim--has been published widely and even made it into a resource for the top homes in the world--not because it is huge and grand, but because it is relatively small but miraculously placed within a small lot with the back all woods. Third, a total buildout of a new office space that is over the top. Michael is brilliant, extremely talented, an excellent listener and very thorough in all he does. “We worked with Stan Monroe to design and build our home on land we had purchased several years earlier. Stan listened as we discussed how we wanted our home to work, and designed a floor plan that met our expectations in the contemporary style that we liked and that took into considerations the features of the lot on which the house was to be built. Interesting design features were incorporated as the design of the house evolved, and the result is a wonderful family home that is beautiful, comfortable and welcoming to guests. Any elements that exceeded budget were our own choices, and deadlines were met throughout the process. Some of my favorite design features are the ceilings, curved walls and the custom glass front door that Stan designed. He insisted that a glass door was the best choice for the front of out house. We did not like the front of the house being wide open to the street. Stan designed a sand-blasted pattern on the glass in the door that gave us privacy, and added a beautiful design element that echoed the other curves in the house. We have been in our home for 16 years and still love the design. The entire process was a pleasure.”
