Beadboard Backsplash

vor 16 Jahren

So we have gone without a backsplash for about a year now...mostly because I can't make up my mind on what I want. I can't seem to find any tile that I like yet. We have been thinking of doing a beadboard backsplash. I went and got a pack of wood beadboard "panels"...they are about 4" wide and about 30" long. As you can see, there is no 4" strip of granite....I opted not to get one because I thought I was going to do tile.

If I did decide to go with beadboard, would a 4" strip of wood(nicley primed and painted) be better looking than just going with the beadboard down to the granite?

Any ideas or suggestions on a backsplash would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Mine is a little bit different situation as my entire kitchen is horizontal beadboard but my "backsplash" behind my sink is about a 4" piece of wood primed and painted w/ the beadboard. Hopefully you can tell in this picture. I was originally going to not have anything but the beadboard but DH convinced me to go this route. Don't know if you can tell, but there is a slight curve in the wood as it is the top piece of our molding.

Thanks for the pic...that looks pretty nice. I do like the additional trim along the counter.

I would recommend a 4" backsplash if you do beadboard. I did one beadboard end cap on the fridge panel, down to the countertop, and it got a couple of dings in the finish. A baseboard of some kind may have minimized the damage.
It also makes it easier to waterproof the joint if the corner is stone to stone.

I picked up a piece of fluted casing today....just to see if I like it. It's almost 4" wide, so it should be ok if I decide to go with it.

I am open to any suggestions regarding a backsplash material. I'm not sold on beadboard yet....so if anybody has any ideas at all on what might look good in this kitchen....I'd sure like to hear them!

To: Farmhousebound: I love your sink. Can you tell me which one it is? (Looks like the Shaw Original?)

    ghound-

I'm also considering the beadboard and I like the idea of the 4" trim piece to separate the counter. I'm think about doing a horizontal 2" ledge to top it off where there aren't upper cabs.

Another options that might look nice (that I'm also considering) is the lighter slate brick tiles. There have been a few that hve really started to grow on me. Some are really light, almost pastel-ish that don't overpower or smack your eye up too much. It might range a bit cool in terms of color shade, you have really warm cabinets and counters so you may not like it. I think it was rhome410 who did it in their kitchen. Specifically I'm talking about the backsplash behind the stove.

Also, I would not recommend doing fluted trim around the counter. It just seems like it would be harder to clean and the flutes would probably run perpendicular to the bead board which to my mind would look a bit odd.

Yep...the fluted trim is out. It's just too busy looking, and you're right...it would be a pain to clean.

We actually brought home a few tile samples today...it's just too hard to decide!

I have a beadboard backsplash in my pantry and though I do not cook in there, I often bake. Clean up is not difficult. Here are the photos.

Wow...what a great pantry! Thanks for the pics.

We found a couple more tile places to check out. Hopefully we will be able to make a decision soon.

vanna - the sink is a Shaw's - it's the 39" and we love it! I was originally going to go with their original 30" or 36" single sink but DH wanted a double sink. When I first got it, it looked huge. Now that is it installed, I am so glad that I went with this size. The left sink is 30" and I haven't found anything I use that won't fit completely in it.
