An electric outlet. Wish I could charge my handheld vac on a shelf in my pantry.

I have a large walk in pantry and I love it. On thing I like is that one one side, I have very shallow shelves. Maybe 6-8 inches deep? I put canned goods there. Those shelves have a lip on them. I would recommend shelves that are adjustable. So, you can change the space between--flexibility. I also have some really deep shelves at the narrow ends of my pantry. Good for large platters and appliances you don't use much. One thing I wish I had was a little space for a trash can. I have a tiny one in there, but would like a larger, stand up one. I also have two bins in the pantry for recycling. One for glass and the other for paper/ plastic. I have recycling in my kitchen too, but it fills up fast. I love having space for recycling in the pantry as well. Pattisue is right on. We do have an outlet and I do just what she says with it...charge the handheld vac. Good luck!

lighting, not just overhead.

I have a light on a side wall, because the lower shelves can be a bit dark, or your head can block overhead lighting.

Due to an error in measurement, I have a very short shelf ~6" tall. Turns out, it's a perfect space for sliced bread (for lunch sandwiches).

How big is your pantry space?
Just because someone could put a pull-out guest bed in theirs and still has room, doesn't necessarily mean you would. LOL! Can you see someone flicking (which should be a motion sensor) on the light and saying, "Oh, it's incredible how cozy in here it is. These canned goods are great insulators." As that someone walks around the bed to turn on the bedside lamp, gesturing vaguely at the cans, "Just my shrine to Andy Warhol. You know him, right?"

Anyway, I've got 48" wide by 36" deep. I, too, have outlets in mine. My power tool chargers are on the shelf and if I had a charging vac it would be there. I need one of those things you stick the broom handles into to keep 'em off the floor. You might want to plan a bit of free wall space for that, if you don't have a broom closet.

I have shelves that are 13" deep. No corners, so I can find stuff. But I'm short and if the shelves were any deeper than 16', they might as well be base cabinet reach-ins. I'd never remember or see what was in the back. A light for those lower, deeper shelves is a great idea.

I can't remember who first did those great lazy Susans in their pantry corner, but I really wanted to do that. I'd have to lose the adjacent coat closet and I do need that. Definitely read the article.

I saw a model home with a long pantry and one section had a counter with drawers and then shelves above it and I've been obsessed with it ever since. All i could think about was how nice it would be to have an area to put all the kids school papers and homework and the clutter I am currently needing close at hand and be able to close the door and have my counters clear. And a spot to plug in appliances etc.

Here's what we did with ours.

The total size of our pantry is about 4 x 10. The area containing the cabinets is about 4 x 6. The door to the left leads to the yard, the door on the right, to the garage. There are 2 pairs of electric outlets on the left hand wall. 1 behind the blender and the other behind the KA mixer. There's another outlet behind the microwave. On the right side wall is a recessed cab that we use mostly for baking supplies. The base cabs on the left side are only 17" deep, but since you have the room, you could probably go for full 24" base cabs.
