Does this work as slate look vinyl plank. I love this. I just dont want the dark rust, black gray colors

not with your yellow tone/pine paneling! on the monitor it looks like a cool gray w/bits of blue gray. plus it has a pattern. get a sample and bring it home and see how it looks next to your walls. you'll see what I mean. (now, if you want to whitewash or paint your paneling white, then it would work fine. if you don't, look for a darker charcoal or black type of laminate)

or do a lighter stone-look, like Kathleen mentioned below....

at least this type wouldn't compete w/the paneling as much as a brown wood tone laminate

You can LVP that looks like stone or tile. With that wood I would use a warm but light color like limestone. Slipcovers would also brighten the room.

let me also add, there is nothing wrong with updating 60 year old pine paneling. It's not like it's some rare species of wood, and the paneling will still be there for sentimental sake.

whitewash or painting it white would be a great update and make choosing your flooring easier. some examples

Imuhrich, my husband is from Florence on the Oregon coast. It’s a lovely place but in the winter it’s cold, damp and gray. We now live near the Washington coast and it’s about the same in the winter. I decided only my kitchen would reflect anything beachy. That’s it no more. I describe it as somewhere between farmhouse and crab shack. Everything else is just traditional. I have seen so many new comers exclaim “oh we are going to do white and gray for our interior colors”. Yup talk to me in March after your first gray soggy winter. Frankly I love the pine and the plaid. Best of luck to you. Here’s some pics of my “eclectic crab shack” kitchen. You’ll notice there’s no gray. I painted the walls in a reddish brown.

Sorry for the delay and no updates. Pandemic has caused lots of chaos but all healthy. Looking for more ideas. We do have to take out the wood stove but want to replace with another one! Ideas?

The wood is knotty cedar. so unique and want that the focal point. Many things will be removed from the room. Not ready to whitewash the cedar at this point in a cabin.

personally I wouldn't do a vinyl or laminate that looks like wood next to all of your real wood.

why not just do some simple pine flooring?

I bought similar white pine planks and did the walls in a camper trailer.

I got my pine from lumber liquidators too. Did the ceiling and walls with it.

I am back :) Back to update the flooring gotten rid of sooo much!! Not a fan of the travertine look because we dont have a ton of natural light coming in.. It looks drab to me when I mock it online. Need to lighten and brighten! We will not be painting the knotty pine/cedar interior at this time. We need to start with flooring, lighting and new mattresses OMG they are original I think.

I am back with no update but beginning the updates. Starting with new Milgard windows, electrical panel, hot water heater and new tub shower surround so we can actually take a warm clean shower. Still considering LVP. I am not a fan of the travertine that many recommended for many reasons but mostly the darker tones. We may consider whitewashing the knotty pine at some point but it is real wood and in grreat shape. We have removed much furniture and the rusty fireplace.. May go with a pellet stove at some point. Need new fresh ideas for flooring, Not carpeting. This will be a cabin with not huge high traffic it is not a rental eilther. We will visit on long weekends, holidays, ,etc. Want the rustic cabin feel but brigthter :) Please help

I would consider a floor like this tone in my cabin.

Your wood walls are so wonderful. Consider real wood floors again but with some boards and knots that pick up the color of your walls. See how streaky these wood boards are. They pick up the reddish gold of your walls.

You can lighten your room with light upholstery, furniture up on legs, open lighting, light rugs, art.

What do we think about this because you all and especially @Beth H. : has me realized wood paneling is awesome but can be painted at some point. Right now new Milgard

windows air tight and flooring are the main concerns. The carpet is so musty and needs to come out. windows to lock in an air tight seal for the winter will be a first. the decor and pitcure placement comments are so welcomed but not yet... we need to seal the place so no water damage or pests visit!! The carpeting is so bad!!! You have no idea :(

I like the lighter floor, especially your last photo. It’s got some interest in that it’s not one-solid-color looking. And a light wood will brighten the whole space.

If you choose to lighten the walls, that has to be taken into consideration. Do you know what is under the current floor?

@RedRyder yes under the carpet is icky red brick looking laminte that likely has asbestos...:(

its a cabin pine floor with at least three coats of barethane, indoor/outdoor rug (something you can take up n shake out outside). leave pine walls, you dont want too much maintenance and you want to be able to walk from outdoors to indoors without floors looking grubby( light floors will do that). Some larger, brighter pics on wall will look better than all the small pieces get rid of all the ’stuff’ on mantel and sideboard a vase with natural foliage (bush branches, berry branches, twigs) will look good on mantel or sideboard the white oil lamp can go on whichever the vase is not placed on streamling items around will give a more airy feeling

lighten up the furniture

The furniture will liikely have slipcovers to brighten the space for sure some of the furniture and much of the wall art if not feeling like grandma and grandpas cabin is gone already. Thanks for the input not quite ready for decor ideas to brighten yet...we have a long way to go! and not getting younger :( Let's pretend the walls are bare and we have a collage of GMa and Gpa :)

yes. clean it all up n out first. do the major work. for sure, then things will look better and you will have a clearer vision as to the finishing touches!

the pic of the light wood floor you posted looks like it has a natural finish and looks lovely remember over time it will yellow as does any nat finish wood

OMG - icky red brick laminate… yuck. When you look at LVP, watch out for too much gray, too blond/yellow, too streaky (and dizzying), etc.

II have friends building a huge modern house and they found a great wood LVP floor without any of these colors. It can be done.

I do agree with housegal200 that a bit of “naturalness” in the floor -like she posted - works better with a cabin. And lightening things up with your decor is also great advice.

I found youhaven’t read every comment yet but I my first thought was Lvp flooring. I like the lighter grays enough wood for sure already. I have it in my home and ease of maintenance is paramount.

We have Springfield Oak in at condo my brother rents. We live it and it’s low maintenance! It has been down a year now. My niece put down a different color in her townhouse 2 yrs ago. She has a dog, and one will put it upstairs soon. 😊
