Replacement window brands

Hello,


We have a home from the early 90s in the upper Midwest (routinely goes to -10F and up to 90F depending on the season).


Some of old double pane Crestline windows don't open easily and are drafty.


To add to the brief, we are also close to a highway and airport, so sound reduction is also important.


We have gotten several replacement quotes and want to have your thoughts about which are worth digging into.


ProVia Endure

Lindsay Pinnacle

Sunrise V4500

Pella Impervia

Marvin Integrity

Andersen 400


We've received quotes ranging from $1600/window installed to $4500/window installed.


ProVia and Sunrise are energy star for our region which is a positive.


Marvin and Andersen are good for resale but their mismatched glass costs quite a premium.


Lindsay I can't find much info about.


Pella is off our list after reading forums about quality issues. Okna is not available in my area.


So to the contractors out there, where should I focus my attention?

    I can tell you that the pella impervia is NOT well regarded and should be at the bottom of your list right next to root canal. The first 3 you have listed are the top 3 on your list.

    If that's the case, I suppose I should choose whichever contractor is a trusted installer that warrants their work?

    choosing a trusted contractor is very important. A sloppy contractor can destroy many things like water proof , chaulking etc. Choose alum window frame. it will last longer

    Pretty big spectrum there of products. On efficiency, the Sunrise will be tops. What did you want the window to look like?

    We're going for a minimalist look, so a combination of casement and awning. We're hoping to achieve maximum glass area. Bonus points for robust hardware that will stand up to 3 kids.

    Impervia probably has the smallest frame, but if you are going for non-vinyl, the Integrity is a better regarded product.

    Got it. If I had to pit the Integrity against a vinyl product, which one would you choose?

    Comes down to what you like the look of to be honest. The Sunrise will have a bit better thermals than the Integrity. But the integrity looks more like a wood window.
