Mudroom
Could we open up wall of kitchen adjacent to the new entry room, and convert current kitchen doorway into an open entryway? Pros: would allow the kitchen (and dining room) to benefit from the light in new room without installing skylight in kitchen ceiling. Would visually/aesthetically link the new room to the house interior, rather than to the front stoop. Cons: We lose that bit of wall space in the entry room (that we could have used for hooks, shelves, etc.) And we'd need to rethink the heating scheme for new room, since it would impact warmth of the kitchen.
Bench only needs to be long enough enuf for one person to sit on...

In this photo, entry to the Kitchen is at the far left. So rather than walking thru mudroom to get to kitchen, the mudroom is parallel to the kitchen. If doing in our case, the back entry would be in line with our current back door, and the mudroom area would be to our left as we entered the house. Any advantages to that layout?
