Oh no, I seem to be disagreeing with everyone in this thread! Having just defended dark floors from charges of depression, now I feel I must defend light ones from charges of basketballcourt aesthetics. I truly feel all natural shades of hardwood floors are beautiful, and light floors look superb in many combinations, as do medium-toned ones. Think of all those fabulous Scandinavian houses with modern minimalist furniture and very pale wood floors! It's all a matter of how you use a dark or light wood floor in your overall design. And, in fact, in the case of devadalporto's cherry kitchen, I have to admit that dark floors (much as I love them) would not be my top choice. I think cherry cabinets are dark enough (and potentially darken more with age), so that a lighter (medium-light) wood floor makes a better contrast.
