Ideally a simple railing. Wood rail that matches the floor. White banister. Where railing is along wall and not open, just have the mouted handrail.

Can the stairwell be this 'open' in the main level. I think it would be flipped but half railing from the stair well up to the foyer, then exposed down to the basement and up to the 2nd floor?
