It is actually some old railroad trestles that were purchased outside of Salem, OR. The mantel is huge....it took 6 men and two bobcats to get it in place!
How did you treat the railroad tie prior to install? I have a tie that I'd like to use as a mantle, but was discouraged not to due to the stuff they were dipped in years ago. Any suggestions?
Sorry, I can't help you with that. The homeowner handled that end of it ... I just know it was prepped before it was delivered. I would suggest talking to a wood expert - someone that deals with reclaimed wood. Good luck!
