Crushed velvet. Crushed velvet has a distinctive mottled look; the nap lies in different directions to play with the light. It’s crushed and twisted during the fabrication process while the fabric is still wet. Designer Lo Chen says the example seen here is made of polyester. Crushed velvet is often used in funkier, nontraditional spaces.
The main thing to remember is that the table and chairs need to fit on the rug with enough of a border so the back legs of the chairs don’t fall off the rug when someone is sitting on them. When the chairs are placed under the table, measure 20 inches from the back legs all around — that’s the minimum size the rug needs to be.

Focus group. Wallpaper doesn’t have to be applied wall to wall. Here it was hung in panels and framed by molding like a work of art. These panels form a stylish backdrop for a decorative composition.
