Like backsplash - appears to be a stone travertine subway tile, but think I want ours to be lighter and more oatmeal in color than this. Do not like the decorative strip, but do like the inside of the decorative square above cooktop (however would prefer to border it in a simple, solid edge piece as opposed to the tile shown). Do not like anything else about this kitchen.
Re decorative tile work above the cooktop: I like a simple border around it, and then use of the same tile as used in the backsplash but laid in a different way. I picture a subway tile shape on our backsplash, with the decorative area above the cooktop being subway tile on the diagonal. Note, I don't like any of the actual selections in this picture.
Kitchen Inspiration Photo. Floors are similar to what we plan to have, as are the white cabinets with bronze hardware. Particularly like the stone travertine subway tile in oatmeal color for the backsplash. Granite countertops are Giallo Ornamental, and while not set on that exact color generally like the look of a light, neutral granite. Intrigued by the butcher block island, but worried about its durability (and don't want to hesitate to put anything on the island, be it wet, cold, hot, etc.). But do want the island to contrast with the rest of the kitchen, either by staining the cabinets instead of painting them white, or keeping the cabinets white and changing up the countertop.
