This kitchen was refaced, and in the process, they added 12" cabinet boxes above the existing cabinets, and has the new doors made tall enough to cover both old and new boxes. This is the perfect lower cost solution when you want to take cabinets all the way to the ceiling (or remove an unsightly bulkhead and extend cabinets) without demolishing the existing kitchen cabinets.
