This is the closest to the "quintessential living room" that we have. Love the size, lines, and proportions of this living room. Big enough for a group of 8-12 people but not so big as to lose intimacy. The fireplace itself (not the hearth) is a great size, and we love that it's recessed into the wall, creating a flat plane that doesn't take floor space from the room. The fireplace seems a little more...subtle...in the sense that it's more like it's just a wall. This goes well with our initial design discussion about using beams and ceiling heights to distinguish different areas (see dining room in white to the right). If we were to change this living room, we would add carpet and cushioned seating along the window

We love the seating along the window...it creates another easy space for people to sit and interact without stuffing the room with furniture. We also love this wine storage area.

Alternative fireplace style we like: seating around fireplace, living and dining areas distinct but connected by fireplace. We don't care about making the fireplace "float"

Connected to outdoors, nice mix of different or natural materials/colors/textures. We would have changed the wall section above the fireplace (above the photo) to stone to match the sides of the fireplace

This is moving in an interesting direction, but we included it more for things we don't like about it. The wood is too light and there are too many beams here...the other photos from this project really highlight an example of "too beam-y"

We like the big bench seating in front of the fireplace - neat that they used a natural material like $tone but we're not committed to a giant stone slab to sit on. Picturing three or four people here with glasses of wine. This hearth is WAY too imposing...we're just here for the bench seat
