Simple roofline, kind of neat how the lines come together. Also, a great garage in that it doesn't point straight toward the street. Or, put another way, the garage door isn't staring you in the face as you drive up. To us, turning the garage door sideways completely changes the profile of this house and makes the garage seems much smaller than it actually is
MT house, project description very much aligns with our thoughts and goals for the house "The River Bank House sits along the Gallatin River just outside Big Sky, Montana. The clients love to entertain, so the house was set up to create an open and casual atmosphere with a strong connection to the outdoors. The house is oriented toward the best view of the river while maintaining good solar orientation for taking advantage of solar heat gain in the winter and keeping out the hot summer sun. The large roof over the living room serves to shade large areas of glass in the summer, while geothermal heat pumps and high levels of insulation help keep it warm and energy efficient in the winter. In such an extreme climate the house was specifically designed to withstand both extremes of the temperature spectrum. The house is separated into the main living area and the guest wing. The guest area is designed so that it can be shut off from the rest of the house when unoccupied and set back to a lower temperature when not in use. Additionally, the two wings of the house bend in order to capture the best views of the river and create a protected entry courtyard."
Evan loves the big open wraparound porch, covered from elements, low step up from grass gives a very connected feeling to the outdoors. I picture us standing or sitting under here during a big summer rainstorm, feeling totally safe and sheltered but the weather is close enough to reach out and touch. A wood fireplace for the covered area would be really nice (picturing building up a crackling wood fire to enjoy while the snow comes down) but we would want something a little more subtle than what is pictured here.
This seems closest to the "iconic" look that we've pictured might go well on our property...simple, modern lines, with a subtle exterior that embraces the farmland around us and allows for great interaction with the immediate outdoors and views.
