If use blue backsplash tile then blue island is nice accent. Keep everything else white.

Super clever and likely far more inexpensive than another feature. Potential care issues over long run, but could change up the look too.

Surface bullnose is good transition. 3x6 tiles and 2x6 surface bullnose with a bullnose corner (double angle or double bullnose). Will need some sort of border given open floor plan.

Other than the terra cotta tiles, there is no backsplash. Seems messy to me but less "kitcheny" and may be cheap.
